How Frena Was Born: A Full Circle Story

I get asked a lot about where my tallow comes from. It is one of my favorite questions because the answer is a story I never get tired of telling.

A few years ago I was struggling with my skin. Dry, dull and completely defeated by product after product that promised everything and delivered nothing. I had basically given up. Then I signed up for a deer processing class, not because I was looking for a skincare solution, but just because I wanted to learn something new.

The owner of a local butcher shop was called in last minute to teach it. And somewhere in the middle of that class he mentioned, almost in passing, that people were buying tallow to make soap and lotion.

That one sentence changed everything.

From One Sentence to a Skincare Brand

I went home and started researching. Then rendering. Then formulating. Pages and pages of notes. Combinations of tallow, butters and oils. Trial and error and more trial and error. And eventually Frena Self Care was born.

Frena launched in October 2025 and has already developed a loyal following of people who, like me, were tired of skincare that did not work and ingredients they could not trust.

The Full Circle Moment.

Here is the part I think about the most. The man who sparked the whole idea without even knowing it is now the man who supplies the tallow that goes into every single jar I make. I buy my suet directly from his butcher shop here in Oklahoma. He had no idea what he was setting in motion that day in that class.

I think about that a lot.
